Last updated: 31 July 2026 · How we handle your data and your customers' data
This is a starting template, not legal advice. South Africa's POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act) sets specific requirements for handling personal information — including your customers' names, phone numbers, and purchase history stored inside Hustle Chommie. Have this reviewed by someone qualified before publishing, and consider whether you need to register with the Information Regulator as a responsible party.
This customer data is entered by you, belongs to you, and is stored in your own WordPress database (either on your hosted subsite or your own self-hosted site). We don't access it except where needed to provide support you've requested, or where required by law.
We do not sell your data, or your customers' data, to third parties.
Business data (customers, inventory, invoices) lives in your WordPress database. For Platform customers, that's on infrastructure we manage; for Self-Hosted (open source) customers, that's on your own hosting provider.
We use third-party services to operate the Service, which may process limited data on our behalf — for example, a payment processor for billing, and a hosting provider for infrastructure. WhatsApp links generated by the Service open WhatsApp directly; we don't have access to those conversations.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. If you're located in South Africa, you may also have rights under POPIA, including the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
We retain your account data for as long as your subscription is active, and for a reasonable period afterward for legal and accounting purposes. Business data stored in your WordPress database remains under your control and is not automatically deleted when you deactivate the plugin — only if you explicitly request it (see our plugin's uninstall behaviour).
